What I Carry With Me

I have been wanting to do an issue about my gear for a long time, but it never felt natural. Setting it up in my apartment, clean and staged, that felt forced. So when I found myself on assignment, waiting next to the white Land Cruiser we were using, I realized the hood of the car was all the backdrop I needed.

How I ended up doing it
ISSUE 16

Leica Q3 43
Artisan & Artist Strap
SmallRig L-Shape Mount Plate with Handle
This is my main camera. I've had the Leica Q3 43 since December 2024. It was initially a loaner and I fell in love with it. I banged it up so much it became my own.
I had this Artisan & Artist strap on it when it was the loaner, gave it up, tried another Peak Design strap which worked great, but I missed the old strap. So I put it back. It fits perfectly for me.
I have the SmallRig grip just because I can hold the camera better. It also acts as a plate at the bottom so I can clip the action camera on with a tripod mount.
Leica SL3
Vario-Elmarit-SL 24-90 ASPH
Artisan & Artist Strap
DJI Osmo Action Nano
SmallRig Magic Arm

SL3 with the 24 to 90. I don't switch lenses in places like this, dust gets everywhere, one lens has to do everything. The sharpest zoom made for the L-mount system, it can rival the fixed lenses.
The Osmo camera on top films my face so I can confirm it’s recording and framed correctly. When the arm broke on one of the last days, I taped the camera to the lens itself with medical tape. Still got what I needed.
DJI Osmo Action Nano
DJI Mic 2

I've been carrying action cameras since the first GoPro came out. In the old days the image stabilizers were terrible and they didn't have horizon lock. But a few years ago that changed and it really makes carrying these action cameras and using them in the field much easier.
I carry two microphones with me and two action cameras. One points in my direction and the other points out using a chest mount.
