When Brothers Fight

2007
Gaza
Stories

In 2006 and 2007, Gaza was torn apart by internal conflict. After decades of struggle with Israel, the violence shifted inward as the rivalry between Fatah and Hamas escalated into open warfare. Street battles erupted in refugee camps and neighborhoods, dividing families and communities.

The fighting was relentless—masked gunmen patrolled the streets, executions were carried out in broad daylight, and civilians were caught in the crossfire.

What had once been a united front against a common enemy fractured into deadly factionalism.

The weight of war was visible in the faces of those trying to navigate daily life amid chaos—families mourning their dead, children growing up surrounded by armed fighters, and a society losing its fragile sense of stability.

This was the moment before Hamas took full control of Gaza in June 2007, holding it until today.
